Giridih (Jharkhand), July 4 (NationPress) The lifeless bodies of a young couple were discovered hanging from a tree in a wooded area of the Pirtand block in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Friday, as reported by police officials.
This unsettling revelation has ignited tension and speculation within the community.
The victims have been recognized as Imamul Hansda, hailing from Panchrukhi village under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station, and Rani Kumari, from Kulkhi village.
There is ongoing uncertainty whether the couple succumbed to suicide or were murdered and subsequently hung from the tree to divert the investigation. The police are diligently exploring both possibilities.
The bodies were located in the forest adjacent to Kulkhi village, falling under the Kudko Panchayat and Harladih Outpost (OP). Local villagers reportedly stumbled upon the hanging couple while wandering into the forest early Friday morning, triggering widespread panic and speculation.
Upon receiving the alert, the Harladih OP police along with Dumri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sumit Kumar arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. The bodies have been sent to Giridih Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Initial inquiries with local residents indicated that the couple had been romantically involved for an extended period and had voiced their intention to marry. However, societal and familial pressures were reportedly obstructing their union.
The police discovered a box of vermilion (sindoor) in the pocket of the male victim, leading to conjecture that he may have adorned the female's hair parting with it, symbolizing marital intent, prior to their demise.
Dumri SDPO Sumit Kumar remarked that the case seems to revolve around a love affair, but the definitive cause of death will be established following the post-mortem findings.
"All potential scenarios are being investigated," stated the SDPO, adding, "We are interrogating the families of both individuals to ascertain when they departed from home. If they had been missing for a while, we also wish to understand why the police were not alerted sooner."
