Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh), July 5 (NationPress) A newly-wed couple from the Tribal community was discovered hanging at their residence in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, under mysterious circumstances, according to police reports on Saturday.
The tragic event unfolded in Budhar town, falling under the Keshwahi police station jurisdiction late Friday night. The deceased individuals have been identified as Bodhan Singh Gond (25) and Urmila Singh Gond (21).
Upon receiving reports late at night, a police team arrived at the scene to find the couple's bodies hanging from a ceiling fan in their bedroom, bound by the same rope. The police detailed that both were found suspended with their necks tied to different ends of a single rope.
The bodies were transported to the Shahdol district hospital, located approximately 30 km from the incident site, for autopsy. In the aftermath, the Keshwahi police initiated a case and commenced an investigation, as stated by a police official on Saturday.
No suicide note was discovered at the scene; however, initial inquiries indicated that Bodhan Singh had borrowed money from a local moneylender for their wedding, which took place in April 2024.
Additionally, the police discovered that Bodhan and Urmila had shared dinner with their parents until 10:30 pm, during which a dispute arose concerning the loan from the local moneylender. Following this argument, the couple retreated to their bedroom. When Bodhan's father called for him to come out, he received no answer. Concerned by the silence, he knocked on the door, yet still received no response. Alarmed, he contacted nearby neighbors, and when they broke a side window to the bedroom, they were horrified to find the couple hanging from the ceiling fan.
The local police were subsequently notified and proceeded to remove the bodies.
On Saturday morning, senior police officials and a forensic team visited the scene for further investigation. The couple's mobile phones were seized for forensic analysis.
The police confirmed, "The bodies have been returned to the family for last rites. A forensic team has gathered evidence from the scene, and we have spoken with family members. The investigation is ongoing," stated Ashish Jharia, the in-charge of Keshwahi police station.
