Noida, April 17 (NationPress) On Friday, police halted a delegation from the CPI(M), headed by General Secretary M.A. Baby, along with a 10-member team from the Samajwadi Party at both the Chilla Border and the DND while they were en route to engage with workers protesting in Noida.

M.A. Baby addressed reporters, stating, “I sought a meeting with the District Magistrate. Our party's other leaders had previously attempted to meet her without success. When I arrived, I was also prevented from proceeding. We demand an investigation into the alleged police lathi-charge on the workers. We even tried reaching out to the District Magistrate’s office but received no reply.”

Simultaneously, the Samajwadi Party's delegation, consisting of ten members, arrived at the DND (Northwest Transit Center) to show support for the protesting workers. Due to a significant police presence at the site—including personnel from the PAC and RRF, in addition to senior officials such as the DIG, DCP, and ACP—the delegation was obstructed.

Key figures in attendance, including Opposition Leader Mata Prasad Pandey, Atul Pradhan, Shahid Manzoor, Pankaj Malik, Kamal Akhtar, and Aashray Gupta, were later detained at the DND location.

Mata Prasad Pandey shared with IANS, “I had cautioned that there is substantial discontent among the workers and called for a resolution, yet no action was taken. Senior officials have disregarded the exploitation of the workforce. Reports indicate many workers are injured and hospitalized. Now, unable to confront their own shortcomings, authorities are alleging 'Pakistani involvement' to deflect attention.”

In a related incident, tensions rose in Noida’s Sector 8, where employees caused a disturbance at a corporate facility, demanding increased salaries. Upon notification, a large police contingent was dispatched to manage the situation. While employees were initially removed from the roads and guided back into the company premises, protests persisted within the building.

Authorities have heightened security measures across critical areas, including the DND Flyway linking Delhi and Noida, to avert any escalation. Police deployment has been bolstered as delegations from both the CPI(M) and the Samajwadi Party were anticipated to visit the vicinity to meet with workers. However, the police have enforced restrictions to prevent such delegations from advancing further.

Amid these tensions, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated on Wednesday that the rights, dignity, and social security of workers will not be compromised. During a video conference review of the state’s industrial landscape, he instructed officials to guarantee dignified working conditions, timely wage payments, and provision of all statutory benefits.

Taking a serious stance on the situation in Gautam Buddha Nagar, the Chief Minister directed authorities to identify and take stringent action against any non-worker elements attempting to incite unrest or disrupt industrial peace. He underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards those spreading rumors or misinformation.

Point of View

The blocking of delegations from prominent political parties highlights the ongoing struggle for worker rights and raises questions about law enforcement's role in labor disputes. This situation calls for urgent attention and resolution from authorities to maintain industrial harmony.
