Patna, May 5 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded when a man lost his life and another sustained injuries after a speeding SUV, owned by the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Naokothi block, collided with their motorcycle in Bihar’s Begusarai district on Monday.
The deadly accident occurred on State Highway 55 near Hardiya Dhala within the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.
Witnesses reported that the SUV struck the motorcycle head-on.
The force of the impact was so severe that the motorcycle rider, Ashish Kumar alias Abhishek (30), from Shahpur Panchayat in the Lakho police station area, died instantly, while the pillion rider suffered serious injuries.
After the collision, the driver attempted to flee but lost control, crashing the vehicle into an electric pole.
Local residents, alarmed by the incident, apprehended the driver, identified as Sintu Kumar from Chilmil village, and subjected him to a severe beating before handing him over to the district police.
The SUV displayed an official insignia of the Naokothi Block Education Officer, with 'Bihar Government' marked on its rear, indicating its status as a government vehicle.
The injured individual was swiftly transported to Sadar Hospital for medical attention by locals. The police initiated an investigation shortly after being notified.
Arvind Kumar Pandey, SHO of Mufassil police station, confirmed the incident, stating, “Two youths were riding the bike when they collided with an SUV at Hardia Dhala. One was killed on the spot, and the other sustained critical injuries. We have filed an FIR against Sintu Kumar for reckless and negligent driving.”
“Initial reports indicate the vehicle is owned by the Naokothi BEO, but we are in the process of verifying its ownership and usage,” the SHO added.
“The body has been recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination. The family of the deceased has been notified about the accident,” he noted.
This incident has stirred significant unrest among the victim’s family and local residents, raising alarms about the misuse of government vehicles and ongoing road safety violations.
