New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi is set to determine next week whether to acknowledge a defamation complaint lodged by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.
After considering the oral arguments presented, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Neha Mittal stated on Monday that a decision regarding the cognisance of the criminal defamation complaint against Swaraj will be made on February 13.
On December 16, the court issued a notice requesting a response from Swaraj. Jain’s complaint claims that Swaraj made defamatory statements about him during a television interview on October 5, 2023, which he argues were intended to tarnish his reputation for political advantage.
The former Delhi minister contends that Bansuri Swaraj falsely asserted that Rs 3 crore, along with 1.8 kg of gold and 133 gold coins, were found in his residence during raids in October 2023. He accused Swaraj of attempting to undermine him for personal political gain.
Additionally, the complaint states that Swaraj labeled Jain as "corrupt" and "fraud". Jain expressed that these allegations have significantly harmed his reputation, impacting him not only as an elected official but also in his roles as a husband, father, brother, and friend.
He asserted that the defamatory remarks made by Swaraj have caused irreparable damage to his character and standing.
