Sanjay Singh Promises Court to Avoid Defamatory Comments Against Goa CM’s Spouse; BJP’s Malviya Criticizes AAP MP

Panaji, Jan 10 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh assured a Goa court that he would avoid making defamatory remarks against BJP leader Sulakshana Sawant, the spouse of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, until January 24 or until he files a response to the defamation lawsuit, depending on which is later.
This declaration was made in reaction to a defamation case brought by Sulakshana Sawant, who accused Singh of making slanderous comments during a press conference, where he claimed she was implicated in a “cash-for-jobs scam.”
In her lawsuit, Sulakshana Sawant sought a legal order to stop Singh from making further public statements about her and demanded Rs 100 crore in damages. She also requested the court to bar Singh from sharing or redistributing the video and transcripts from the press conference where the allegedly defamatory remarks were made.
Advocate S. Bodke, representing Sanjay Singh, informed the court that Singh would not issue any further defamatory statements against Sawant until the next court session or the submission of his reply to the temporary injunction request. Singh also sought additional time to provide a written statement and respond to the injunction application. The case is set for the next hearing on January 24.
The “cash-for-jobs” scandal, which has resulted in at least 32 FIRs and 44 arrests, involved numerous individuals allegedly being deceived into paying substantial amounts of money with promises of employment in various government sectors, facilitated by the accused’s alleged “connections.”
In the meantime, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya commented on the social media platform X, stating, “Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, has found himself involved in a case concerning false allegations against Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his spouse, Sulakshana.”
“Singh's attorney has filed a motion in the Bicholim Court in Goa, asserting that his client will not issue any offensive statements against the Chief Minister moving forward. Sulakshana Sawant has initiated a defamation case against Singh, seeking Rs 100 crore in damages, with the next hearing set for January 24,” Malviya added.
“Sanjay Singh had accused the Sawants of being involved in a job scam during a press conference in Delhi but failed to provide any evidence to back his claims. It is not uncommon for leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party to make unfounded allegations and subsequently apologize in court. Previously, Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders issued apologies to Nitin Gadkari and the late Arun Jaitley.”
