Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) On Friday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a signature campaign advocating for the Women's Reservation Bill at the Arts Faculty, Delhi University. She stressed the importance of women taking a significant role in policy formation and governance for the effective functioning of the nation.
As the Parliament's Budget Session resumes on April 16, the main focus will be on deliberating and amending the Women's Reservation Act, 2023 (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam), formally recognized as the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act.
In her address to the media, Chief Minister Gupta expressed, “This moment is exhilarating and joyful for us as women's representation in Parliament and Assemblies is nearing realization.”
Highlighting the necessity of reservation, she remarked, “Not every individual, woman, or daughter can achieve such positions through conventional means without assistance. Only a select few manage to reach here without that support.”
She further emphasized that in the current era, “women must play an essential role” in governance, policy creation, and administration.
“The transformation in the system that women aspire for will only materialize when they step forward as MPs, MLAs, and Ministers,” Gupta asserted, mentioning the importance of addressing women’s safety and independence.
CM Gupta also interacted with students and faculty about the implications of the Women's Reservation Bill.
In a conversation with IANS, Delhi University's Vice Chancellor, Prof Yogesh Singh, expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking decisive action to foster change in the country.
He pointed out that this Bill aims at transforming societal perceptions regarding the amplification of women’s leadership roles.
“We are fortunate to inhabit a nation with laws designed to empower girls. Once enacted, this legislation will have profound societal, political, and economic effects,” Singh asserted.
Prof Payal remarked that the amended Bill would represent a critical milestone for women's progress in the nation, stating, “This will lay the foundation for a well-educated and developed country.”
Deepika Jha, Joint Secretary of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU), informed IANS that the Bill would provide opportunities for women and students from middle-class backgrounds.
