New Delhi, Dec 25 (NationPress) In a bold move, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday opted for the Delhi Metro to travel to an event venue in Lajpat Nagar. This gesture aims to inspire residents to embrace public transportation as a means to combat pollution from private vehicles.

During her journey on the Magenta Line from Delhi Gate to Lajpat Nagar, commuters welcomed her with folded hands, while young children sought blessings by touching her feet. Many youngsters took the opportunity to capture selfies with the Chief Minister, who also made it a point to approach elderly passengers to extend her greetings.

The 25-minute ride served as a platform for CM Gupta to commend Metro users for choosing public transport and encouraged them to maintain their commitment to reducing pollution in the city.

In a post on X, CM Gupta shared, “During my Metro journey from Delhi Gate to Lajpat Nagar, I had the chance to engage with passengers and young people. We had an open dialogue about their safety, convenience, time efficiency, and experiences with the Metro.”

She praised the entire Delhi Metro team for their commitment to cleanliness, timely services, and a secure environment. She stated, “The Delhi government is tirelessly working to enhance public transport. Our objective is to ensure that journeys are easy, safe, and built on trust.”

Recalling the significant day of December 24, 2002, when former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated the Delhi Metro, she noted that her journey coincided with the celebrations of Vajpayee’s birth anniversary.

Grateful for the gift of the Metro to the city, CM Gupta remarked on X, “He was the first passenger of the Delhi Metro. This moment was not merely an inauguration but a pivotal chapter that shaped Delhi’s future.”

“Atal ji saw the Metro as more than just a transport initiative; he envisioned it as a cornerstone of modern thought, transparent governance, and responsible urban development. This Metro journey today serves as a tribute to that visionary outlook,” she added.

CM Gupta emphasized, “This journey highlights how strong decisions and clear intentions can pave the way for future generations. I had the privilege of interacting with young companions and fellow passengers, engaging in meaningful discussions about the benefits the Delhi Metro brings to our city.”

Atal ji laid the groundwork for Delhi not just for today but for the future.
