New Delhi, June 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a meeting with Vijender Singh, an Olympic medalist and renowned boxer, to address critical aspects concerning sports facilities and youth empowerment in the capital.
Following their discussion, Vijender took to X to share, "Today, I had a constructive meeting with Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. We focused on vital topics such as youth empowerment, sports infrastructure, and the prospects for our athletes. I appreciate her dedication and time towards shaping a more robust future for our nation."
This meeting took place shortly after CM Gupta unveiled plans by the BJP government to harness the public-private partnership (PPP) model for enhancing the utilization of available sports facilities within government institutions.
During the inauguration of the Delhi Games 2025 last month, she pledged to establish a Delhi Sports Council aimed at improving facilities for students and confirmed increased budgetary allocations for the proposed Delhi Sports University.
CM Gupta remarked, "Historically, under previous administrations, the sports facilities were inadequate, forcing athletes to seek registration in other states. The current government is committed to altering this landscape, having doubled the budget for sports infrastructure."
She emphasized that Delhi's athletes must receive all the necessary resources for their development. "We are actively working to create a robust support system through the Delhi Sports Council," she added.
"Our goal is for Delhi's athletes to remain in the city and achieve great success for it," she continued.
Criticizing the prior AAP government for the decline in sports infrastructure, CM Gupta stated, "We aim to provide superior stadiums, technology, and facilities for our athletes and offer financial support. Our government has also quadrupled the prize money for the Delhi Games."
She concluded by asserting that the athletes in the national capital deserve the facilities they require, adding, "Delhi's players were compelled to represent other states due to insufficient honorarium and facilities."
