New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, together with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Tuesday initiated the construction of the Nangloi-Najafgarh road enhancement and drainage system project.

This initiative is set to significantly benefit countless residents in West Delhi, who have been facing serious challenges during the monsoon season, such as waterlogging, overfilled drains, damaged roads, and chronic traffic jams, as highlighted by an official statement.

Upon the project's completion, the drainage system throughout the corridor will see substantial improvements, roads will be upgraded, and commuters will experience considerable relief from traffic congestion, the official noted.

During the event, Saxena remarked that this day holds great significance for the residents of Nangloi and Najafgarh, as their long-cherished demand is finally being addressed.

He stated that the Delhi Government has undertaken decisive actions to tackle the serious issues that have plagued residents for many years.

According to him, the enhancement of the Nangloi-Najafgarh Road along with the drainage infrastructure is being launched with an investment of Rs 64 crore. This will usher in positive changes to residents' lives, alleviating pollution, traffic congestion, and waterlogging.

The Lieutenant Governor recalled his visit in September 2024 to various areas including Mundka, Nangloi, Kanjhawala, Phirni Road, and Rohtak Road, which were in dire condition.

He observed sewage spilling onto the roads, deteriorated road conditions, and a generally unhygienic environment due to potholes and litter.

He had then instructed the government to take prompt action. Unfortunately, due to prior government neglect, progress was stalled.

Commending the Delhi Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Gupta, he noted that the current administration has prioritized this project.

He emphasized that the project encompasses more than just road enhancements; it will also involve the creation of footpaths, a central verge, and drainage systems.

Improved road conditions are expected to enhance traffic management, reduce accidents, and significantly lower dust and pollution levels, he expressed confidence that these development initiatives in Delhi would lead to lasting and positive transformations in the future.

Chief Minister Gupta mentioned that this project represents a significant gift for the residents of West Delhi. She expressed her gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his support and involvement in this development initiative.

Gupta acknowledged that the road and drainage systems had been overlooked for years by previous administrations. However, over the past 11 months, her government has prioritized addressing Delhi's fundamental infrastructural issues. The initiation of this permanent solution in the area reflects that commitment.

She added that the Delhi Government is working on enhancing the entire city's drainage and stormwater management systems using innovative and modern methodologies. Several significant trunk drain projects have already been launched.
