New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) The cold wave is becoming increasingly severe in Delhi and its adjoining areas, leaving residents with no respite from the hazardous air quality. Following a brief improvement in pollution levels on Wednesday, air quality took a downturn once again on Thursday morning.
Most areas in the city reported an AQI ranging from 350 to 400, categorizing it as 'very poor', while Wazirpur and Bawana fell back into the 'severe' zone. The combination of rising cold and thick fog has further exacerbated the discomfort for the population.
Delhi-NCR has been grappling with persistent pollution for almost a month. Although the past few days showed some improvement, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to lift GRAP Stage 3 restrictions on Wednesday evening, the overall air quality remains in the very poor category.
Recent data from the Central Pollution Control Board indicates a renewed spike in pollution levels across the city. Wazirpur and Bawana have emerged as the most affected areas, with residents facing extremely polluted air once again.
As per CPCB data, at 6 a.m., the AQI in Wazirpur was recorded at 404, while Bawana stood at 403. Other localities also reported poor conditions.
Vivek Vihar reported an AQI of 395, Jahangirpuri 392, Anand Vihar 386, Narela 386, Burari 368, Chandni Chowk 368, Sonia Vihar 355, and RK Puram 354, all falling within the very poor category.
A dense layer of haze and fog has enveloped the city since morning, significantly reducing visibility during early and late hours. Breathing in such conditions is considered harmful, with health experts cautioning that prolonged exposure can be dangerous. They recommend staying indoors as much as possible and venturing out only when absolutely necessary.
Experts emphasize the necessity of wearing appropriate masks outdoors, stating that taking precautions is essential under these hazardous conditions.
