Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shimla, Feb 25 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh Police detained a group of at least 20 personnel from the Delhi Police for their involvement in the arrest of three leaders from the Youth Congress in Rohru, located in the Shimla district.
The arrests were made in relation to a protest organized by Youth Congress leaders at the recent AI summit held in New Delhi.
A team from the Delhi Police had traveled to Rohru to apprehend the leaders and was on their way back when they were intercepted by Himachal police near Dharampur in Solan district, resulting in their detention.
Both the detained police officers and the arrested leaders were subsequently transported to Shimla for court proceedings. Superintendent of Police Tirumalaraju SD Varma informed the press that checkpoints were established following a request from Shimla police regarding the arrests.
The Shimla police executed the arrest of the Delhi police personnel. Kuldeep Rathore, a Congress lawmaker, has called for strict action against the Delhi Police, labeling their actions against the Youth Congress leaders as an attempt to silence dissent.
He expressed that conducting raids without a warrant constitutes a blatant breach of privacy. In a press statement, Rathore urged the state government to initiate legal proceedings against the Delhi Police.
Furthermore, he criticized the Central Government, arguing that the nation does not belong to a single political entity. “In a democracy, governments change, yet it remains the opposition's responsibility to amplify the voices of the populace,” he stated.
Rathore accused the Central Government of attempting to stifle the voices of youth, particularly by making a significant issue out of the Youth Congress's shirtless protest during the AI summit.
