New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma has initiated an inquiry on Thursday addressing the suspected misconduct linked to the planned installation of 2,000 CCTV cameras throughout the city during the tenure of the former AAP government.

While reassuring BJP lawmakers in the Delhi Assembly of taking appropriate steps against those at fault, Verma stated that the investigation will focus on the absence of CCTV cameras in eight constituencies represented by BJP MLAs during the previous AAP administration.

Verma emphasized that the installation of CCTV cameras in these eight constituencies will now take precedence.

He also guaranteed the House that necessary measures would be adopted to prevent any political bias from hindering the implementation of essential security initiatives like CCTV installation.

BJP’s Vishwas Nagar MLA O.P. Sharma brought the issue to attention in the Assembly, asserting that not a single CCTV camera was set up in his constituency under the AAP government, even though full payment for 2,000 cameras was made and partial payment for another 2,000 had been completed.

He called for an inquiry by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) into the situation.

Backing his statement, Laxmi Nagar MLA Abhay Verma disclosed that BJP MLAs had even sought the intervention of the Delhi High Court, and despite a court ruling and a recommendation from the Chief Secretary, the AAP government took no action to install CCTV cameras in their areas.

Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, who represented the Rohini constituency in the prior Assembly, informed members that while 2,000 CCTV cameras were scheduled for installation in all 70 constituencies of Delhi, the eight constituencies held by BJP MLAs were entirely overlooked by the earlier government.

“The AAP government procured 1.40 lakh cameras for installation across all constituencies, yet these eight seats were omitted,” he noted.

In response to these allegations, PWD Minister Verma promised strict actions. “The situation will be investigated, and responsible officers will face repercussions if found to be at fault,” he declared.
