First Cabinet Meeting of BJP Government to Ensure Housing for Slum Dwellers: Parvesh Verma

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Former BJP MP and current party candidate from New Delhi, Parvesh Verma, criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for betraying slum residents. He declared that the very first Cabinet meeting of the newly elected BJP government would pass a resolution to ensure that all slum dwellers in the city receive housing.
Verma accused the previous Delhi Chief Minister, Kejriwal, and the AAP government of mistreating slum residents by not distributing houses constructed during the Congress administration. He claimed that the AAP demolished their homes and charged them application fees ranging from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh. He stated, “The new BJP government will distribute keys to 8,000 flats that are currently available for allocation to slum dwellers in Delhi.”
In a press conference, Verma showcased slum residents from the Bharti Nagar camp, asserting that the AAP had failed to deliver even the completed pucca houses to the beneficiaries, despite having collected their funds.
“Kejriwal has not provided keys to around 8,000 flats ready in areas such as Savda Ghevra and Baprola,” he remarked, accusing the former Chief Minister of constructing a 'Sheesh Mahal' for himself while neglecting the housing needs of the impoverished.
Verma, the son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, further alleged that over the past two years, all demolitions of slum areas were ordered by the AAP, which holds power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. “They did not even provide housing for the affected individuals,” he added.
“Demolitions occurred at Kushak Nallah, Silver Oak Park, and Delhi Gate. Instead of tackling piles of garbage, Kejriwal chose to destroy shanties in wards where the local councillors were also from the AAP,” he pointed out, referring to the frustration exhibited by slum residents in Kidwai Nagar against Kejriwal on Sunday.
Uma, a resident from the Bharti Nagar slum in New Delhi, mentioned that she has been waiting for a decade for the allocation of a pucca house.
“Whenever we inquire about the status of our application, we are told it will be resolved in two to three months. When we return for updates, we are advised to be patient. They tell us to vote for them once more, and they will provide us with a pucca house,” said Uma.
Verma insisted that Kejriwal should honor his promise of not contesting the upcoming election, as he has repeatedly lied about the demolition of slums while falsely claiming that the BJP would destroy shanties.
“An RTI application has shown that 8,000 flats for slum dwellers were constructed during the Congress administration, yet the AAP government has failed to deliver the keys,” he stated.
“The victims of AAP's unlawful actions include Dalits, disabled, and widows,” Verma asserted, labeling Kejriwal as an anti-Dalit politician who only uses a poster of B.R. Ambedkar for show.
Regarding Jat reservation in the Central OBC list, Verma criticized Kejriwal for the AAP government's inability to pass a resolution on Jat reservation in the Delhi Assembly and submit it to the Central government.
Additionally, he noted that the AAP had enlisted 50 Punjab MLAs to assist with the party's campaign in Delhi. “The Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is eager for the AAP to succeed in Delhi because he understands that if the party loses the Delhi elections, Kejriwal will come to his state and aim to become its chief minister,” he asserted.
