Robbery Shocks Delhi: Shopkeeper Loses Rs 14 Lakh at Gunpoint
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 28 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old shopkeeper was reportedly robbed of Rs 14 lakh at gunpoint by three unidentified individuals in the Model Town locality of northwest Delhi, as per police reports released on Saturday. This marks the second robbery targeting a business establishment in the national capital within just a week.
Police officials indicated that they received a PCR call regarding the incident at the Model Town police station on Friday. Promptly reacting to the information, police teams were dispatched to the scene to initiate an investigation.
The victim, known as Kartik, recounted to the police that he was engrossed in a movie inside his shop when the three unknown men made their way inside.
The suspects claimed they needed to update their mobile number linked to their Aadhaar card, using this ruse to gain entry.
Kartik informed investigators that shortly after entering, one of the assailants locked the shop door from within. Another suspect held a gun to his head, while the third pressed a knife against his neck, issuing threats before executing the robbery.
The culprits then escaped with a bag containing Rs 14 lakh in cash, as stated by police officials.
A case has been filed concerning the incident, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas to trace the suspects' movements.
Officials confirmed that teams have been deployed to locate those responsible, and further investigations are actively underway.
This incident follows another significant robbery reported earlier this week in the Chandni Chowk area, where three armed men allegedly stole gold jewelry valued at around Rs 60 lakh from a shop in Kinari Bazar.
The robbery occurred around 1:34 p.m. on February 25 in Anar Wali Gali, a narrow and heavily trafficked lane in one of Delhi's busiest wholesale markets.
Shop owner Ashok Kumar Chaurasia, who has been in the jewelry business for over thirty years, mentioned that his son was managing the establishment at the time of the incident.
Eyewitness accounts and statements from the victim characterized the robbery as swift and meticulously planned. Three men entered the shop and, as per the accounts, immediately struck the salesman on the head with the butt of a pistol.
While one attacker subdued the salesman, another allegedly gagged the owner’s son with a cloth to prevent him from sounding an alarm.
The third accomplice reportedly cleared the display counters of gold items in mere seconds—approximately 14 seconds—before they fled the scene.
The recurrence of such incidents has raised alarm among traders in Delhi.
Members of the local business community have expressed outrage over what they perceive as a serious security oversight.
Pradeep Kumar Jain, the President of the Gota Zari Association, criticized the Delhi Police, stating that the robbery took place despite a heightened alert across the city.
Authorities have initiated investigations into both cases and confirmed that multiple teams are working to determine the identities of the culprits, with CCTV footage and other technical evidence being analyzed to track their locations.
