New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) Responding to skepticism from AAP leaders, BJP's National General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam asserted on Thursday that the Delhi government's Rs 2,500 monthly financial support for women will commence for qualified beneficiaries on March 8, as pledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With strong indications from Delhi government officials that the initiative will cater to 15-20 lakh women with a family annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh, Gautam stated to IANS, “The continuous inquiries by AAP leaders regarding the women’s initiative are merely a strategy to distract from the scams unveiled by CAG reports.”
“AAP leaders should clarify when Arvind Kejriwal intends to fulfill his three-year-old promise to provide Punjab women with a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000,” Gautam challenged.
The Rs 2,500 per month scheme for women in Delhi signifies a commitment from PM Modi, and even AAP leaders are aware of its implementation, as Gautam highlighted March 8 – International Women’s Day – as the launch date for the program.
In anticipation of the launch date, AAP leaders have initiated a countdown campaign. On Thursday, party members protesting in central Delhi were seen holding banners stating “2 more days to go.”
A source from the Delhi government mentioned that an IT platform is prepared for online registration of beneficiaries for the women’s scheme, ensuring thorough multi-level verification to exclude “bogus or fake” entries, reminiscent of the Union government's Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta engaged in discussions with women at the Delhi Assembly to gather their insights on the financial assistance scheme and other concerns, including security, sanitation, education, and increasing women’s roles in governance.
She affirmed the BJP government’s commitment to delivering Rs 2,500 monthly to women and criticized AAP for its failed attempts to pressure the timeline of the program. “We will operate according to our agenda; they do not need to dictate anything,” she declared post-meeting.
The recommendations made by women are expected to be included in the Delhi Budget 2025-26, anticipated to be announced between March 24-26.
The Chief Minister also introduced a WhatsApp number 9999962025 for collecting ideas for the Budget, marking a first for a BJP government in Delhi after 27 years.
CM Gupta emphasized that the goal of public dialogue regarding the Budget is to develop a ‘Viksit Delhi’ with the cooperation of the community.
