New Delhi, March 4 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) initiated a four-day countdown on Tuesday leading up to March 8, urging the BJP government in Delhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor the electoral commitment of providing Rs 2,500 each month to every woman in the national capital by that date.
In response, the BJP criticized the move, referring to it as a gimmick by AAP leaders to stay relevant following their recent loss in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Leading a march with AAP supporters brandishing placards and banners proclaiming “Just 4 more days to go”, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi insisted on the timely release of the pledged monthly payments for women.
“We are not protesting, merely waiting. Modiji had assured that the first installment of Rs 2,500 would be credited to women’s bank accounts on March 8. Today is March 4, meaning only four days are left, and women are eagerly anticipating the funds,” she stated.
“We expect women to begin receiving their installments within the next four days,” stated former Chief Minister Atishi, recalling PM Modi's promise that on International Women's Day, the first payment of Rs 2,500 each would be disbursed.
“He mentioned that women should link their bank accounts with their phones as the initial payment of Rs 2,500 would arrive on March 8. We are awaiting the realization of 'Modi ki Guarantee',” she added.
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa characterized the AAP demonstration as a desperate measure by Atishi to protect her position as LoP in the Delhi Assembly.
“We invite them to continue their protest. They are welcome to come and demonstrate at our residences if it aids them in retaining their jobs,” he remarked.
He added that Atishi's protest is a necessity to divert attention from the wrongdoings of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which have emerged over the past 15 days.
