New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday that the government will provide a monthly financial aid of Rs 6,000 to qualifying impoverished individuals with disabilities who require substantial support.
In a statement, CM Gupta mentioned that on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the scheme on Wednesday.
This initiative will ensure that eligible poor beneficiaries receive Rs 6,000 each month directly deposited into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The financial assistance aims to help cover costs for caregivers, physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological counselling, assistive devices, and other vital support services, according to an official statement.
The scheme's objective is to assist individuals and their families grappling with economic and social difficulties stemming from disabilities. The Chief Minister stated that specific eligibility criteria will apply to those seeking financial aid.
The Delhi Cabinet had previously sanctioned the scheme in a prior meeting.
As per the Chief Minister, individuals with disabilities are a crucial part of society and deserve to live a life of dignity and independence.
She explained that this Department of Social Welfare initiative targets individuals with at least 40 percent disability, certified as having High Support Needs with a score between 60 and 100 by the District-level Assessment Board.
Beneficiaries must have resided in Delhi for a minimum of five years, their family’s annual income should not surpass Rs 1 lakh, and Aadhaar-linked verification is essential, she added.
Eligible citizens with disabilities can register and apply online through the e-District portal. The application will be processed by the District Social Welfare Officer and verified by the relevant Assessment Board.
The Chief Minister stressed that the significance of this scheme goes beyond just financial support. “This initiative also aims to improve social participation and self-reliance among individuals with disabilities. Until now, the financial burden of care and treatment has been overwhelming for many families,” she stated.
