New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, expressed his support on Thursday for the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s decision to commence the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the capital. He emphasized that this initiative will be instrumental in identifying and eliminating illegal foreign nationals from the voter registry.
Sachdeva claimed that this revision will aid in uncovering and removing the names of Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals allegedly living unlawfully in Delhi, who may have been enrolled in the electoral rolls.
To facilitate voters during the Special Intensive Revision process, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed teams of party members at both the state and district levels. These teams are dedicated to assisting voters with any challenges they may encounter.
Every team comprises a legal expert, ensuring that voters receive the necessary legal advice and assistance throughout the revision process.
Sachdeva reiterated that the BJP is committed to fully supporting the Election Commission to maintain the integrity of the electoral rolls, ensuring they are accurate and devoid of ineligible entries. He assured that the party would provide assistance to voters, promoting a smooth and transparent revision process.
Earlier, the Election Commission began preparations for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 22 States and Union Territories, including the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, with the activity expected to kick off in April 2026.
The upcoming Special Intensive Revision will also take place in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, NCT of Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.
On the same day, the Election Commission communicated with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of these regions, instructing them to finalize the preparatory tasks related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls promptly.
The advisory from Election Commission Secretary Pawan Diwan mentioned, “As the Special Intensive Revision in the aforementioned States/UTs is slated to begin in April 2026, we request the completion of preparatory work for the SIR exercise at the earliest.”
