Domestic Air Travel in India Experiences Significant Growth in November

New Delhi, Dec 25 (NationPress) In November of this year, India's commercial airlines carried 1.42 crore passengers on domestic routes, marking an impressive 12 percent growth compared to the same month in the previous year, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

IndiGo continued to lead the market with a 63.6 percent share of air traffic, followed by Air India with 24.4 percent, Akasa Air at 4.7 percent, and SpiceJet with 3.1 percent. Alliance Air's market share remained unchanged at 0.7 percent for the month.

The report from DGCA indicates that domestic airlines carried 1,464.02 lakh passengers during the January-November 2024 period, up from 1,382.34 lakh in the same timeframe last year, resulting in an annual growth of 5.91 percent and a monthly growth of 11.90 percent.

In November, domestic air passenger traffic reached 142.52 lakh, an increase from 127.36 lakh in the same month last year. This figure also surpassed the 1.36 crore passengers reported in October.

However, the On Time Performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines in major airports like Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai saw a decline in November, leading to longer delays for passengers.

IndiGo's OTP was recorded at 74.5 percent, while Akasa Air and SpiceJet reported 66.4 percent and 62.5 percent, respectively.

The OTP for Air India and Alliance Air was 58.8 percent and 58.9 percent, respectively, according to the data.

The figures also revealed that 224,904 passengers experienced delays in November, with airlines compensating nearly Rs 2.9 crore for stranded passengers.

In November, scheduled domestic airlines received 624 complaints related to passenger services.

A total of 3,539 passengers were denied boarding, leading to an expenditure of Rs 2.84 crore on compensation and facilities.

Additionally, 27,577 passengers were affected by flight cancellations, for which airlines spent Rs 36.79 lakh on compensation and facilities.
