EAM Jaishankar to Update Lok Sabha on India-China Ties Today

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to update the Lok Sabha on Monday concerning the latest changes in India’s relationship with China. Other Union Ministers will also present statements on a range of topics in both Houses of Parliament.

This briefing from the EAM follows the recent completion of disengagement between Indian and Chinese forces at two contentious locations: Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh. The Indian Army has started verification patrols at Depsang, while patrols at Demchok commenced on November 1.

As per the schedule released by the secretariat, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary will deliver a statement in the Lower House regarding "the status of implementation of the recommendations from the 56th Report of the Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development related to the SANKALP Project for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship."

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, will introduce a Bill aimed at consolidating and amending laws relevant to coastal shipping regulation, promoting coasting trade, and encouraging domestic participation. This initiative is designed to ensure that India has a coastal fleet, owned and operated by Indian citizens, to meet its national security and commercial requirements.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to amend several acts including the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 and the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 for consideration and approval.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will introduce The Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to amend the Railways Act, 1989 for consideration and passing.

In the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will present a Bill to amend the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948 for consideration and passage.

Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu will introduce The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, which aims to regulate and control various aspects related to aircraft, as approved by the Lok Sabha.

Members Ranjeet Ranjan and Baburam Nishad will submit reports from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (2024-2025).

The ongoing winter session has been disrupted by protests from Congress and other opposition MPs on multiple issues, leading to frequent adjournments.
