Kolkata, March 16 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested a comprehensive report from the West Bengal government regarding the police officers whose transfer orders were issued post-February 28. This date marks the publication of the final voters' list, excluding those cases currently under judicial review and categorized as having a “logical discrepancy”.
The correspondence from the Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) to the Additional Director General of Police (Legal) and state police nodal officer for the elections also calls for information on police officers who were re-employed after their retirement.
Additionally, the ECI has sought details about police officers responsible for jurisdictions where election-related violence occurred during both the 2021 state Assembly elections and the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“In light of the previous memo and the response referred to, I am instructed to request another list of police station-level officers overseeing areas where incidents of pre-poll and poll-day violence occurred in the 2021 Assembly Election, as well as pre-poll, poll-day, and post-poll violence in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election,” stated the second letter.
