New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India is set to conduct a press conference at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

In this conference, the Commission is expected to unveil the election timetable for four states—Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu—along with one Union Territory, Puducherry.

After a thorough assessment of the election preparedness in these regions, the Commission is ready to finalize the schedule.

Recently, the poll body has closely monitored the election readiness in several states, including West Bengal on March 9, Kerala on March 6, and Tamil Nadu on February 26.

Moreover, Assam's election preparedness was reviewed in February, with a focus on security measures and the electoral rolls.

The Assam Assembly is set to complete its term on May 20, while the Kerala Assembly will conclude on May 23.

In Tamil Nadu, the Assembly's term is due to end on May 10, and in West Bengal, it will finish on May 7.

Notably, the West Bengal Legislative Assembly has a total of 294 seats, Assam has 126, Kerala has 140, and Tamil Nadu has 234. The Puducherry Legislative Assembly consists of 33 seats.

The Commission has been engaging with political parties to ensure voter safety and assess the deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

Previously, District Magistrates, including District Electoral Officers, were responsible for managing the CAPF's movements during elections while the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was active.

This time, however, the ECI-nominated police observers will oversee the CAPF movements in their respective districts.

Point of View

The Election Commission's timely announcement is vital for ensuring a transparent electoral process. Monitoring the readiness of states like Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu reflects the Commission's commitment to uphold democratic values and facilitate a fair election.
