How Does NCW's Shakti Samvaad Empower Women and Aim for a Child Marriage-Free India?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The National Commission for Women hosted its premier national consultation, “Shakti Samvaad”, on Thursday, gathering members and delegates from various State Women Commissions throughout the nation to tackle pressing issues related to the safety, empowerment, and rights of women and children.
The extensive program centered on enhancing collaboration between the NCW and state entities to facilitate more effective grassroots interventions and expedite grievance resolution.
Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, who inaugurated the event, underscored the critical necessity of educating boys and men to foster a genuinely equitable society.
During her address, the Chief Minister emphasized that teaching sons is now more crucial than educating daughters; only by instilling respect, equality, and responsibility in boys from a young age can we ensure that women feel safe, valued, and empowered within society.
She urged for a collective responsibility in shaping communities where every woman can enjoy dignity and security. As part of the event, the Chief Minister honored the winners of a poster-making competition organized by the NCW and launched “Safarnama”, a publication detailing the Commission’s journey and pivotal interventions since its establishment.
The consultation included thorough discussions on reaching the national goal of a “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat”.
Participants explored community-driven strategies, awareness initiatives, and coordinated efforts with State Commissions to completely eliminate child marriage.
Another significant session evaluated plans to extend Jan Sunwai programs, ensuring that complaints from even the most remote areas can reach the Commission and receive prompt resolution.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar described Jan Sunwai as more than just a grievance redressal mechanism; it embodies a steadfast commitment to ensuring that every woman's voice is heard, every concern is addressed, and every right is safeguarded.
On Friday, January 30, the Commission will celebrate its 34th Foundation Day.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will honor the event as the Chief Guest, with Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Savitri Thakur attending as Guests of Honour.
The Foundation Day celebration will showcase the NCW’s accomplishments over three decades in policy advocacy, legal reforms, crisis intervention, and empowerment initiatives, reiterating its resolve to create a safer and more inclusive India for women and girls.
Through initiatives like Shakti Samvaad, the Commission continues to fortify the national framework for gender justice by promoting collaboration between central and state institutions and amplifying grassroots voices.
