Bengaluru, April 20 (NationPress) Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was tragically discovered murdered at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The 68-year-old retired officer was found lying in a pool of blood at his home located in HSR Layout. Om Prakash, an IPS officer from the 1981 batch, held the position of the 38th Director General of Police (DGP) for Karnataka in 2015.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the murder might have been perpetrated by a close family member.

According to police sources, the incident appears to have occurred amid a family dispute.

Police are currently investigating the potential involvement of his wife.

It was reportedly Om Prakash's wife who alerted the police regarding the occurrence.

Senior police officials promptly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The body has been transported to St. John’s Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The authorities have recovered the knife used in the crime from the residence; Om Prakash had allegedly been stabbed three times.

Originally from Champaran in Bihar, he held numerous significant positions during his career, including Commandant General of Home Guards, and worked in the Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Rights Enforcement, among other departments.

He also served on the State Vigilance Commission, Karnataka Lokayukta, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Furthermore, he was the Transport Commissioner and was known for managing communal tensions in the Bhatkal area of Karwar district.

He was instrumental in probing two substantial terrorist attacks in Bengaluru. He played a pivotal role in the apprehension of suspects involved in the bomb blast near the BJP headquarters on April 17, 2013, as well as the Church Street bomb blast incident on December 28, 2014.
