Bengaluru, April 21 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have been interrogating the wife and daughter of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash (68) concerning his violent murder, as confirmed by police sources on Monday. The two individuals were taken into custody and transported to the police station from the Observation Centre in a Hoysala patrolling vehicle.
According to police sources, the deceased officer’s wife, Pallavi, sent a text to an IPS officer's wife, asserting that she had "finished off a monster". The police have also uncovered that Pallavi made a video call subsequent to the alleged crime.
Initial investigations suggest that DGP Om Prakash was murdered by his wife, Pallavi. However, police are skeptical that one person could execute such a heinous act alone and are thus questioning the daughter as well.
Investigators have found that the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to a family group, alleging mistreatment by Om Prakash. In the message, she stated he was brandishing a gun in the house and posed a threat to her and their daughter. She also requested someone to file a police report against him.
According to police reports, the accused first assaulted Om Prakash with chilli powder and then poured oil on him. He was subsequently stabbed over 12 times in critical areas, including the neck, abdomen, chest, and head. Evidence indicates that he fought for nearly 10 minutes before succumbing to his injuries.
Authorities have revealed that Pallavi confessed to the crime during her initial interrogation, claiming she acted to protect her own life. However, an official statement is pending.
“Pallavi witnessed Om Prakash die and made phone calls post his death,” sources stated. She asserted that her daughter had been locked in a room during the incident, but police are verifying this claim.
Investigations have shown that Pallavi has been dealing with a mental health condition akin to schizophrenia and was undergoing treatment. Police discovered that she had frequently visited mental health facilities. Om Prakash had reportedly shared with close friends his desire to live separately after their daughter's marriage, as per sources.
Authorities intend to formally document the statements from Pallavi and her daughter before proceeding with further inquiries. Police reported that when officers first arrived at their residence after receiving information about the murder, the mother and daughter engaged in dramatic behavior, refusing to open the door. They eventually allowed police in after about 30 minutes, following senior officers' intervention.
The accused caused a stir at the police station on Monday morning, allegedly resisting getting out of the vehicle and yelling at police officers to not touch them.
Sources indicated that the incident occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Om Prakash and Pallavi had been facing marital issues for over 10 years, and he had confided in close friends about being harassed and tormented by her.
Om Prakash resided with his wife on the first floor of a four-storey building he owned in the IPS Officers’ Quarters Residential Complex. Their daughter lived on the fourth floor, while their son Karthik resided in the same building with his family but was away during the incident.
Sources also disclosed that Om Prakash owned land in areas surrounding Bengaluru, including Magadi, Bidadi, and Dandeli. He had transferred the property in Dandeli to his brothers, which reportedly caused frequent disputes with Pallavi. He had allegedly warned her not to speak negatively about his brothers.
On Sunday afternoon, a heated argument regarding this issue escalated, ultimately leading to his gruesome murder. The HSR Layout police are actively examining the case.
Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was discovered dead at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday. The 68-year-old retired officer was found in a pool of blood at his home in HSR Layout. Om Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS officer, served as the 38th Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka in 2015.
The police have recovered two knives and a bottle used in the incident from the residence.
Om Prakash was originally from Champaran, Bihar. Throughout his career, he held various roles, including Commandant General of Home Guards and worked in Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Rights Enforcement, and more.
He also served in the State Vigilance Commission, Karnataka Lokayukta, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Additionally, he was the Transport Commissioner and was preferred for handling communal tensions in Bhatkal within Karwar district.
