Bengaluru, April 21 (NationPress) Just a day after the shocking discovery of former DGP Om Prakash's brutal murder at his home, his wife, who is reportedly battling a mental disorder, was taken into custody on Monday for her alleged involvement in the horrific crime, according to police reports.
Mrs. Pallavi Om Prakash, aged 64, has been arrested and is scheduled to appear before the magistrate, stated DCP, South East, Sarah Fathima.
In a significant turn of events, the investigation has now been handed over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB). DCP Fathima confirmed, “The case has been transferred to the CCB from the HSR Layout police station.”
Moreover, the former DGP's daughter, Kriti, identified as the second suspect in the FIR, has not yet been apprehended. When questioned about her status, DCP Fathima clarified that Kriti was not in police custody, but did not provide information on whether she had been released.
The police filed an FIR against both the wife and daughter of the former state DGP, who was discovered brutally murdered at his HSR Layout residence last Sunday.
The FIR was initiated based on a complaint by his son, Karthikesh Om Prakash, police sources revealed on Monday.
Karthikesh reported that his father had been receiving threats from his mother for the past week and claimed that his sister had forcefully returned their father home.
Pallavi was named the primary suspect, while Kriti was designated as the secondary suspect in the FIR.
Karthikesh alleged that due to threats from his mother, Om Prakash had sought refuge at his sister Sarita Kumari's residence. “However, two days ago, my sister Kriti went there, harassed my father, and brought him back home,” he stated.
“I suspect that my father, former DGP Om Prakash, was killed by my mother, Pallavi, and my sister, Kriti. Both are suffering from depression and would argue with my father daily,” he mentioned in his complaint.
“On April 20, around 5 p.m., while I was at the Karnataka Golf Association in the Domlur area, my neighbor Sridharan called and informed me that my father’s body was lying on the floor. I rushed home and arrived by 5.45 p.m. By then, police and members of the public had gathered. My father was lying in a pool of blood with head injuries. I saw knives and a bottle beside the body,” Karthikesh explained. The body was subsequently moved to St. John’s Hospital.
The HSR Layout police have charged Pallavi and Kriti under sections 103 (1) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities were interrogating the two, who had been detained and transported to the police station from the Observation Centre in a patrol vehicle.
Police sources disclosed that the deceased officer’s wife sent a message to another IPS officer’s spouse, claiming she had “finished off a monster.” Additionally, it was reported that Pallavi made a video call after allegedly committing the crime.
Initial investigations suggest that Om Prakash was killed by his wife, Pallavi. However, police suspect that it may not have been feasible for one individual to carry out such a violent act alone, prompting them to question the daughter as well.
According to police reports, the accused first threw chilli powder on Om Prakash and poured oil on him before stabbing him over 12 times in the neck, abdomen, chest, and head. Evidence indicates that he fought for nearly 10 minutes before succumbing to his wounds.
Authorities also revealed that Pallavi confessed to the crime during initial questioning, asserting she committed the act to protect her own life. An official statement is still pending.
“Pallavi watched Om Prakash die and made phone calls after his death,” a source indicated. She claimed that her daughter had been locked in one of the rooms during the incident, but police are verifying this assertion.
Investigations have disclosed that Pallavi suffers from a mental illness akin to schizophrenia and has been receiving treatment. Police found she had frequently been visiting mental health facilities and hospitals. Reports suggest that Om Prakash had confided to close acquaintances that he wished to live apart from his family following his daughter’s marriage.
Police have also obtained a message from the wife’s phone, accusing her husband of having connections with terrorists and claiming he was attempting to eliminate her through one of them. She further stated that Om Prakash was administering slow poison to both her and their daughter. Additionally, she urged members of a WhatsApp group to file a complaint against him, advocating for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). After sending this message, she exited the group, according to sources.
