Bhopal, April 6 (NationPress) The local police are currently awaiting an expert assessment following the shocking discovery of multiple army-grade hand grenade shells and cartridges hidden within a well in the Ranjhi Amnala region of Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur.

This startling revelation occurred during the routine annual cleaning of the well, which took an unforeseen twist this year.

While workers conducted their tasks, they unexpectedly found submerged ammunition shells and cartridges, which had already accumulated rust, leading to an immediate alert to the police.

Initial investigations indicate that the grenades and shells could be associated with the Ordnance Factory Khamaria, a government-operated facility responsible for producing ammunition for the military. It is suspected that the items uncovered may have originated from this factory.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, police and security personnel have launched an extensive inquiry.

On the afternoon of last Friday (April 4), the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was dispatched to the location to evaluate the findings.

“At first glance, the shells of military-grade ammunition, such as hand grenades, seem to be no more than scrap. The BDS concluded that these items are aged and non-operational. Nevertheless, we have forwarded the materials to explosive specialists at the Khamaria factory for further analysis and are currently awaiting their report,” stated Satish Sahu, City Superintendent of Police, Ranjhi, Jabalpur.

Despite inquiries with local residents, investigators have not yet discovered any concrete leads.

The police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding how the ammunition shells and cartridges ended up in the well.

A critical question persists: How did such antiquated scrap find its way into the well during standard annual cleaning? The police have emphasized the gravity of the situation, enlisting forensic experts and additional bomb disposal units to ensure a thorough investigation.

A comprehensive report is expected. “In the end, it seems to be merely scrap and junk - nothing more,” the officer added.
