Congress Demands Extension of Wheat MSP Registration Deadline in Madhya Pradesh Due to Technical Issues
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 11 (NationPress) Arun Yadav, the former president of Congress in Madhya Pradesh, stated on Wednesday that numerous farmers in the state faced challenges in registering for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi Marketing Year 2026-27 due to technical glitches in the online registration system.
Yadav urged the government to prolong the registration deadline to provide another chance for farmers who could not finish the registration process. He expressed concerns that failing to extend the deadline would cast doubt on the system's efficacy.
“We have received a flood of calls and messages from farmers since morning, reporting their inability to register for wheat procurement because the server is down. The government should act immediately and extend the registration deadline to ensure that no farmer is excluded,” Yadav emphasized in his statement on Wednesday.
Initially, the state government set March 7 as the registration deadline but later extended it to March 10. Consequently, wheat procurement from registered farmers is slated to commence on March 16.
The government has scheduled procurement from March 16 to May 5 in the divisions of Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram. Meanwhile, in the divisions of Jabalpur, Gwalior, Rewa, Shahdol, Chambal, and Sagar, procurement will occur from March 23 to May 12.
On Tuesday, the state government also established a Cabinet committee tasked with overseeing and reviewing the wheat procurement processes under the MSP for the Rabi Marketing Year 2026-27, ensuring the availability of gunny bags.
This committee comprises key figures such as Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma, Transport and School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh, Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Edal Singh Kansana, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput, and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Lakhan Patel.
The committee will convene regularly and provide recommendations to the Chief Minister, aligning with directives from the Centre and the current situation, to facilitate smooth procurement operations. This committee will remain active until June 30, 2026.
For the 2026-27 marketing season, the state government has also declared a bonus of Rs 40 per quintal above the MSP for wheat, bringing the total payment to farmers to Rs 2,625 per quintal.
