Bhopal, April 3 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh has announced an extension to the registration deadline for wheat procurement from farmers for the Rabi marketing year 2025-26.
The State Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput stated that the registration, which was originally set to conclude on March 31, 2025, has now been pushed to April 9.
This extension is designed to ensure that more farmers can take advantage of the procurement process. Up to now, 13.98 lakh farmers have signed up to sell wheat at the minimum support price (MSP).
Minister Rajput has encouraged any farmers who have yet to register to utilize this extended timeframe and finalize their registration by April 9.
The minimum support price for wheat has been established at Rs 2,425 per quintal, with the state government offering an additional bonus of Rs 175 per quintal. This effectively raises the procurement price to Rs 2,600 per quintal.
As of March 31, a total of 15,09,324 farmers have registered for the procurement scheme. Unseasonal rain has recently delayed the wheat harvesting process and impacted grain quality.
In response, the Union government has relaxed procurement norms, permitting the purchase of grains with a lustre loss exceeding 10 percent, albeit with a minor value reduction of Rs 5.31 per quintal from the MSP of Rs 2,125 per quintal.
The Food Ministry has instructed Madhya Pradesh authorities to manage and record the wheat procured under these relaxed norms separately, ensuring priority liquidation.
Similar relaxations were implemented last year, permitting the procurement of wheat with up to 25 percent lustre loss in the Panna and Sagar districts.
Minister Rajput further revealed that 58,07,11 metric tonnes of wheat have already been procured from 74,697 farmers in the state under the MSP.
Payments are being processed punctually, with Rs 757.36 crore disbursed to farmers. However, adverse weather conditions continue to present challenges for wheat farmers.
