Madhya Pradesh: Revised Wheat Procurement Dates Announced for MSP
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 30 (NationPress) The procurement of wheat at the minimum support price (MSP) for the Rabi Marketing Year 2026–27 in Madhya Pradesh, which was initially set to commence on April 1, has once again been postponed.
The government’s updated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), released on Monday, indicates that the wheat procurement activities in the divisions of Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram will now kick off on April 10.
In addition, the procurement of wheat in the divisions of Jabalpur, Gwalior, Rewa, Shahdol, Chambal, and Sagar, originally slated to start on April 7, will now begin a week later, on April 15.
This latest SOP regarding wheat procurement was issued just two days prior to the previously scheduled start date of April 1.
It is noteworthy that this marks the second rescheduling by the state government, with the initial commencement date having been set for March 16 before being deferred to April 1.
The Congress party has criticized the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government for continually postponing the process.
“Farmers' months of diligent work remain exposed in the fields and threshing grounds, under the open sky, yet the government continues to provide nothing but successive dates for wheat procurement. Initially set for March 16, then pushed to April 1, and now to April 10,” former Union Minister Arun Yadav posted on X.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari claimed that the state government failed to secure jute gunny bags necessary for the organized procurement of agricultural products, which has led to the delay in wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh.
It is essential for district administrations and marketing federations to ensure the availability of jute gunny bags for the orderly procurement of paddy and other farm products.
This procedure involves utilizing both new and used bags, managing stock distribution center-wise, and supervision by joint teams to avert black marketing, ensuring farmers experience no challenges.
Patwari also mentioned that due to the delay in procurement, many farmers in financial need have begun selling their crops at prices significantly lower than the MSP.
Importantly, the wheat procurement in the state will occur at a rate of Rs 2,625 per quintal, which includes a bonus of Rs 40 per quintal for the farmers.
Over 19,04,651 farmers have registered for wheat procurement at the MSP during the Rabi Marketing Season 2026–27.
