New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) An extortionist sought by the Punjab Police has been successfully extradited from the UAE with the assistance of the CBI, utilizing Interpol channels for this operation, an official reported on Friday.
Parminder Singh, also known by aliases Nirmal Singh and Pindi, was returned from the UAE following the issuance of a Red Notice against him by the CBI, as stated by a CBI official.
The suspect is wanted for multiple charges including extortion, violations of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act linked to funding terrorist activities, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation, according to reports.
The CBI had initiated the process for the Red Notice on June 13, following a request from the Punjab Police.
Authorities in the UAE apprehended Parminder Singh, leading to the decision to extradite him back to India, the statement elaborated.
Red Notices issued by Interpol are disseminated to law enforcement agencies worldwide for the purpose of tracking down fugitives, as highlighted by the CBI.
As the National Central Bureau for Interpol in India, the CBI collaborates with all Indian law enforcement agencies through Bharatpol to facilitate assistance via Interpol channels. Over the past few years, more than 130 fugitives have been extradited to India through this collaborative effort, the statement noted.
This month, India was elected to the Interpol Asian Committee, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to collective action against shared challenges such as drug trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism, and human trafficking.
