Why Did CM Fadnavis Warn MLAs About Ladki Bahin Yojana?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Nagpur, Dec 9 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a firm warning on Tuesday to both ruling and opposition MLAs against making casual mentions of the state's flagship Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana while addressing unrelated topics during the Assembly's Question Hour.
Clearly frustrated after several references to the scheme, CM Fadnavis stated that members should avoid using this program as a casual political tool, warning that such actions could lead to serious repercussions.
“Should this behavior persist, you may find yourselves without a seat in the House,” he declared, which led to a moment of silence among the legislators.
The conversation took a notable twist when BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar, formerly a personal assistant to Fadnavis, mentioned alleged illegal liquor distribution and made a fleeting reference to the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme.
The Chief Minister promptly interrupted him, reiterating his caution. “I have previously instructed members to avoid mentioning the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana in the context of unrelated issues,” he asserted, emphasizing that this directive applies to all legislators, including those in power.
Earlier, Congress MLA Jyoti Gaikwad had referenced the scheme during a separate debate, which visibly displayed the Chief Minister's annoyance.
Fadnavis stressed that this initiative is a significant state program and should not be involved in unrelated political discussions. “This scheme will persist. It will not drain resources from any other initiatives. However, unnecessary comments should be avoided,” he stated.
Following this warning, no member mentioned the scheme for the rest of the Question Hour.
The day prior, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented supplementary demands in the State Assembly, which included a provision of Rs 6,103.20 crore specifically allocated for the Ladki Bahin Yojana, underscoring the government's dedication to maintaining the payments.
