New Delhi, July 23 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has apprehended a notorious interstate criminal and fugitive, Nizam, also known as Nazir or Sikander (38), in Jahangirpuri.
The suspect, who has been evading law enforcement for over a year, is wanted in five criminal cases involving burglary and violations of the Arms Act.
As stated by the police, Nazir was listed as a Proclaimed Offender (PO) in several cases registered across various police stations in Delhi, such as Kalkaji, Rajouri Garden, Mangolpuri, and Maurya Enclave. He faces accusations under multiple IPC sections including 379, 380, 454, 411, 34, 174A, and the Arms Act. Nazir, a fifth-grade dropout, began his criminal activities in 2008 with a case related to dacoity preparation in Jahangirpuri.
Since that time, he has been linked to over 110 criminal cases in Delhi and Mumbai, primarily focused on burglary, robbery, and illegal arms possession.
The Southern Range of the Crime Branch, spearheaded by Inspector Ajit Kumar and overseen by ACP Girish Kaushik, established a dedicated team to track down the accused.
Following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering throughout Delhi-NCR, Nazir was apprehended in Jahangirpuri on July 21.
During questioning, Nazir admitted to regularly moving to Malad and Thane in Mumbai to avoid capture. In Mumbai, he operated under the alias Sikander, committing at least 11 burglaries—primarily in locked residential apartments.
“He generally committed crimes alone to maintain confidentiality and avoid dividing the stolen profits. To avoid capture in Delhi, he frequently traveled to Mumbai, where he primarily operated in the Malad and Thane regions. In Mumbai, he used the alias Nazir alias Sikander and executed 11 burglaries in locked residential apartments,” explained DCP Aditya Gautam.
Nazir is currently classified as an Active Bad Character (BC) by the Jahangirpuri police station. Authorities have been advised of his arrest, and further legal actions are in progress.
