Bhopal, March 23 (NationPress) A shocking incident of gang-rape has sent ripples of horror through the Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh. The crime occurred in broad daylight while a college student was making her way home from Rajendragram College.

The brutal act, committed by four attackers, one of whom is a minor, has ignited public outrage and underscored a disturbing level of lawlessness in the area.

Anuppur is situated about 600 km east of the state capital, Bhopal.

According to Rajendragram police station in-charge, Virendra Kumar Barkade, the assault took place around 6 PM on March 22. The young woman had just exited an auto-rickshaw near Cheerband Gate and began her walk home on a dirt path leading to a small settlement. The attackers, who had been lurking nearby, ambushed her, dragged her away, and proceeded to gang-rape her.

“Upon learning about this heinous crime, we immediately mobilized all resources to pursue justice. The suspects were located, medically examined, and presented to the court within a day,” he stated.

The officer noted that the minor would be sent to a Rewa juvenile protection home as per court instructions.

“The victim reported that she was attacked near a culvert by Hemraj Singh, also known as Koshu, along with three other individuals. The assailants silenced her by gagging her with a cloth, dragged her to a secluded area among roadside eucalyptus trees, and assaulted her. They even threatened her life before fleeing,” he continued.

Following her complaint, the police launched an aggressive manhunt, successfully capturing all four suspects within hours.

The detained individuals have been identified as Hemraj Singh (22, son of Bhola Singh Marco), Nepal Singh (20), Jitendra Kumar, alias Jeetu (25), and a minor, all residents of Achalpur under the jurisdiction of Rajendragram police.

“Authorities acted swiftly in processing the case. After medical examinations, the three adult suspects were brought before the court on Saturday and remanded to Anuppur district jail. The minor was directed to be transferred to the Child Protection Home in Rewa. A case has been filed under Sections 87, 70(1), and 351(3) of the BNS,” he concluded.
