Guwahati, Feb 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated on Friday that Gaurav Gogoi needs to clarify whether his wife has obtained Indian citizenship and must address allegations regarding her connections to the ISI. Sarma commented to reporters, “The Congress leader should provide answers concerning his wife’s citizenship status and her previous professional affiliations in Pakistan. He must also explain his meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner without notifying the Ministry of External Affairs.
In a post on X, the CM asserted, “After the meeting with the Pakistani Ambassador Md Abdul Basit (2014-17), the Hon’ble MP began to pose parliamentary questions that could potentially reveal sensitive information about India’s nuclear program. Given the nature of these inquiries, the timing raises significant concerns about the intentions and broader implications behind such questions.”
The CM claimed that following the central government’s negative stance towards the then-Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit, Gogoi ceased to ask defense-related questions in the Lok Sabha. Sarma pointed out in his X post, “Interestingly, after India adopted a stern view on Abdul Basit’s actions, the Hon’ble MP’s interest in defense and nuclear issues noticeably diminished—a trend that deserves further examination.”
Chief Minister Sarma previously remarked regarding Gaurav Gogoi, “After the meeting with the Pakistani High Commission: Questions on Defense and Security Raised in Parliament. The 26/11 Mumbai attacks highlighted significant weaknesses in India’s coastal security. In this context, Question No. 2, raised by the Hon’ble MP, specifically sought in-depth information about coastal radar stations, including their specifications and costs.”
He raised a series of questions in his post, “Why would an MP from Assam—a landlocked region—require classified information on coastal radar systems? What was the necessity of placing such sensitive details in public discussion? Why was this inquiry made soon after the MP’s meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner?”
