Guwahati, Feb 13 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has intensified his criticism of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for engaging with the Pakistan High Commissioner, despite his lack of membership in the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs.

Sarma asserted that following the meeting, Gogoi posed numerous questions regarding national security in Parliament that had no relevance to Assam or his constituency.

The Chief Minister stated, “Post-Pakistan High Commission Meeting: Defence and Security Questions Raised in Parliament. The 26/11 Mumbai attacks revealed significant weaknesses in India’s coastal security. In this light, Question No. 2, raised by the Hon’ble MP, specifically inquired about coastal radar stations, including their specifications and costs.”

He questioned in his X post, “Why would an MP from Assam—a landlocked state—request confidential details on coastal radar systems? What was the purpose of disclosing such sensitive information publicly? Why was this inquiry made immediately after the MP’s meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner? Considering the implications for national security, can this merely be regarded as a coincidence?”

Additionally, allegations surfaced that Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colebourn, who was born in the UK, has not acquired Indian citizenship despite being married to the Congress leader for over 13 years.

The Chief Minister shared in an X post: “For those wondering if the wife of the Hon’ble MP has obtained Indian citizenship, my straightforward answer is: I do not know. However, here is an official copy of the voter list from Jorhat, which includes the names of every family member—except his wife’s. Perhaps it is prudent to draw our own conclusions.”

Earlier, Sarma had also subtly criticized Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for his meeting with the Pakistan High Commissioner, highlighting his absence from the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs.

The Chief Minister further questioned whether the meeting had received approval from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Sharing a picture of Gaurav Gogoi alongside the former Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, Sarma noted in his X handle, “Such a high-level interaction with the ambassador of a rival nation necessitates MEA approval and a debriefing after the meeting. I hope the Hon’ble MP adhered to these protocols, as national security must always supersede political interests.”
