Ashok Gehlot Critiques Rajasthan Government on Jaipur Overbridge Delays
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 27 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday criticized the state government for the ongoing delays in the Civil Lines Railway Overbridge (ROB) project, raising concerns about the development pace in central Jaipur. In his remarks, Gehlot stated, “If the development scenario is this poor just 100 meters from the Chief Minister’s residence, one can only imagine the state of the rest of Rajasthan.
Gehlot pointed out that the Civil Lines ROB was launched back in 2021 during his administration to mitigate persistent traffic issues. Yet, as of 2026, the project is still not finished.
“This overbridge was designed to alleviate traffic snarls and link Jacob Road with Jamnalal Bajaj Marg. The Civil Lines Area was anticipated to receive significant relief, but due to the BJP government’s sluggishness and political interference, the project has now become a hazardous zone,” he alleged.
He emphasized that the flyover was intended to ease heavy traffic flows, noting that over 20,000 two-wheelers navigate the Civil Lines railway crossing, resulting in lengthy jams, queues, and regular congestion. The ROB was envisioned as a pivotal infrastructure initiative to relieve congestion and promote better connectivity.
“Construction started in 2021 with the goal of alleviating the burden on daily commuters, but the project remains unresolved, leaving people in distress,” he remarked.
Inquiring about the motives behind the delay, Gehlot asked, “Does political maneuvering take precedence over public welfare? The government needs to provide answers.”
He further stated that the persistent delay has not only inconvenienced commuters but has also sparked serious questions regarding governance and infrastructure priorities in the state.
Gehlot recently initiated a social media campaign called 'Intezaar Shastra', aiming to shed light on “stalled” public welfare initiatives under the current BJP administration.
In response, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma labeled Intezaar Shastra as 'Jhooth Shastra', recalling the paper leak and JJM scam during Congress rule, asserting that those responsible have been imprisoned.
