Jaipur, April 25 (NationPress) In the wake of profound grief enveloping Rajasthan after the unfortunate demise of Neeraj Udhwani (33), a Jaipur-based chartered accountant, who was killed in a terrorist strike in Pahalgam, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called upon the state government to offer financial support to the grieving family and a government position for Neeraj’s spouse.

On Friday, Gehlot took to the social media platform X, drawing comparisons to a past incident during his administration when Kanhaiyalal Sahu was a victim of a terrorist attack in Udaipur. He stated, “When we were in power, the victim’s family received a compensation of Rs 50 lakh, along with government jobs for both sons.”

“I urge the state government to ensure that a similar relief package is provided to the family of Neeraj Udhwani, who tragically lost his life in the Pahalgam attack. His wife, who is reliant on him, deserves support,” he emphasized.

Gehlot also appealed to the central government and other states to implement compassionate measures for families impacted by terrorism.

The last rites of Neeraj were held at Jhalana Mokshadham, Jaipur, on Thursday, where his elder brother Kishore Udhwani performed the last rites. Neeraj’s wife, Ayushi, stood by his side in profound sorrow, repeatedly breaking down. The couple had recently married in 2023. On April 22, while in Pahalgam, they were caught in a terrorist shooting, during which Neeraj was shot in front of Ayushi, who experienced the terrifying event firsthand.

His remains were transported to Jaipur via an Indigo flight on Wednesday evening at 8:15 PM, after which they were taken to his residence in Model Town prior to the funeral the following day. Numerous political and social dignitaries paid their respects to Neeraj at his home in Malviya Nagar on Thursday.

Attendees included Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, former CM Ashok Gehlot, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Deputy CM Diya Kumari, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra, and Industry Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, among others.
