New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed his support on Tuesday for the West Bengal faction of the Bharatiya Janata Party which has called for distinct polling stations for Hindu voters. He asserted that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration, Muslim groups in the region have reportedly intimidated Hindu voters, thereby hindering their ability to exercise their democratic rights.

“The request from the BJP in Bengal is indicative of the fact that under Mamata Banerjee's guidance and protection, Muslims in Bengal threaten Hindu voters during elections, obstructing their voting process. Thus, the appeal made by Bengal BJP is justified,” Singh stated while speaking to the media.

The Minister went on to detail the party's worries, highlighting that the BJP’s request embodies the anxiety and coercion encountered by Hindu voters in specific districts of the state.

“The Hindu voters there are so apprehensive because of Mamata Banerjee's actions that if elections are conducted under such circumstances, it will be exceedingly challenging for them to vote,” he remarked.

Singh’s remarks followed the submission of a memorandum by the BJP’s West Bengal unit to the Chief Electoral Officer, advocating for the establishment of separate polling booths for Hindus in minority-dominated regions.

The party further insisted that these booths be arranged so that Hindu voters do not have to traverse through Muslim-majority areas to reach their polling stations.

“Hindus are struggling in West Bengal due to the misgovernance of Mamata Banerjee’s administration,” stated Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly. “Instances of Hindu voters facing intimidation and being barred from voting in minority areas have been reported.”

The BJP has pointed to the Murshidabad violence as an instance of what it perceives as a failure of law and order under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

Although the Assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled for 2026, political activities have already begun to escalate. The Election Commission of India has yet to respond to the state BJP’s request for separate polling arrangements.
