Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) - West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, raised concerns on Tuesday regarding the potential last-minute arrests of her Trinamool Congress booth agents by the police, as directed by the Election Commission of India (ECI). She fears this move aims to facilitate elections in those booths without the agents' oversight.
"The ECI has mandated the arrest of Trinamool Congress booth agents, preventing them from operating in polling booths. Therefore, it's essential to prepare substitutes. If one agent is detained, ensure that an alternate is ready to fill in. In some cases, even female family members may need to step in as booth agents," Banerjee, also the Trinamool leader, stated during a campaign rally in Pingla, located in West Midnapore district.
She emphasized her commitment to restoring the names of voters that have been removed during judicial proceedings. "I have taken the matter to the Supreme Court for your benefit. I have fought relentlessly for you on the ground, and I will guarantee the reinstatement of deleted names at all costs. If I cannot achieve this now, I will certainly ensure it happens in the near future,” the Chief Minister assured.
Banerjee criticized the ECI for what she termed harassment of ordinary citizens under the guise of special intensive revisions, stating that this process has led to 250 fatalities in West Bengal. "You must seek revenge with your votes. Your support for the Trinamool Congress will be that act of revenge," she declared.
She also condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), remarking that throughout her extensive political tenure, she has never encountered such a corrupt political strategy as that employed by the BJP currently. "Having served as a central minister, I have seen many political games, but none as unscrupulous as what the BJP is doing now," she stated.
Nevertheless, she asserted that despite the BJP's underhanded tactics, they would not succeed in their objective to seize control of West Bengal this time. "We will counter their strategies to drive the BJP out," she concluded.
