Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 11 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee cautioned the residents of Jhargram on Saturday, urging them to stay alert as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to bring in outsiders from the adjacent state of Jharkhand to sway the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
While addressing an election rally in Jhargram, Chief Minister Banerjee emphasized the need for the Trinamool Congress to exercise greater caution ahead of the state elections.
She instructed party workers and leaders to ensure the security of the electronic voting machines (EVMs), even in case of power outages.
"The BJP is likely to attempt to influence the elections in West Bengal by funneling in money and personnel from Jharkhand. It's crucial to monitor all railway stations in the area. They may attempt to introduce illicit funds and narcotics, aiming to incite unrest once more. There is a deliberate effort to bring in individuals from outside West Bengal to disrupt the electoral atmosphere," stated Chief Minister Banerjee.
Additionally, she delivered a poignant message regarding the tribal vote bank in the politically active state.
She mentioned that a Bill has been enacted in the State Assembly to acknowledge the Sari and Sarna religions; however, its implementation by the Centre is still pending.
Banerjee also highlighted the significance of the Kurmali language and culture, noting the establishment of an academy for this language, reinforcing the commitment of the Trinamool Congress-led government to support the tribal community.
Taking a jab at the BJP, Banerjee remarked, "They (BJP) make numerous pledges before elections, but they vanish post-elections."
Furthermore, the Trinamool Congress leader criticized the BJP on cultural grounds, alleging that the rich history and traditions of West Bengal are being misrepresented without due regard.
From her address in Jhargram, the Chief Minister's message was unmistakable.
She cautioned Trinamool Congress workers that the ruling party is not prepared to take any chances until the vote counting on May 4 is complete.
"Protect the EVMs as if your lives depend on it. Do not vacate the counting centers until every last vote has been accounted for," Chief Minister Banerjee asserted.
The polling in Jhargram is scheduled to occur in the initial phase of the West Bengal Assembly polls on April 23.
