Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 3 (NationPress) West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, warned on Friday that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumes control in the upcoming elections, the division of the state through the restructuring of Assembly seats will be unavoidable.
"The BJP is scheming to fragment West Bengal by modifying the Assembly constituencies. Their plan includes forming a new state incorporating regions from both Bihar and West Bengal. Such a move will only be feasible if they gain power. Therefore, it is crucial for us to thwart their efforts once again in this election," the Chief Minister stated during a campaign rally in Harirampur, South Dinajpur district.
During her address, Banerjee urged attendees to remain alert against the BJP potentially obstructing genuine voters from accessing polling booths using the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) that will be deployed for the two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal later this month.
"We cannot afford to be complacent. I am urging my brothers and sisters in the district to be on high alert," she emphasized.
Moreover, the Chief Minister commended the West Bengal Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for apprehending Mofakkarul Islam, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the intimidation of judicial officers in Kaliachak, Malda district, earlier on Wednesday.
"It is noteworthy that the CID apprehended him even before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team arrived to investigate. He had traveled from Mumbai to West Bengal and intended to flee through Bagdogra Airport," she pointed out.
Banerjee also accused the BJP of attempting to sway voters by distributing cash through an external agency.
"They (BJP) are soliciting your bank account details. Please, do not make the error of sharing your financial information with them," she cautioned.
Later, while addressing another rally in Raiganj within the same district, she claimed to have comprehensive information about the agencies contracted by the BJP to transport substantial amounts of cash into West Bengal for distribution.
"I will disclose all of this at the appropriate time," she assured.
