Kolkata, Feb 27 (NationPress) The leader of the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, raised concerns on Thursday regarding the likelihood of intensified operations by various Central investigative agencies in the state prior to the 2026 Assembly elections.
While refraining from explicitly naming the BJP, she accused the central government of deploying these agencies against the Trinamool Congress in the lead-up to elections.
“Before any election, they target individuals for arrest or initiate charge sheets against them, or attempt to label them as criminals. They possess no shame. They have yet to resolve the case concerning R.G. Kar,” the Chief Minister remarked during a significant party meeting.
Additionally, she criticized the Union government for its alleged failure to prevent the return of Indians under humiliating circumstances. “When they are sending our Indian citizens back in chains, you were meeting with them. Why couldn’t you persuade them to ensure respectful repatriation, similar to what the Colombian government managed? Why isn’t the Indian government facilitating flights to the US to bring Indians back and assure them employment?” she questioned.
During the organizational meeting, the Chief Minister urged party leaders to fully support the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), founded by political strategist Prashant Kishor, with whom the Trinamool Congress has had a campaign strategy collaboration since the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
“Party leaders must heed I-PAC’s guidance and collaborate with them. Cease making disparaging remarks about the organization,” she emphasized.
Her comments come at a time when some members of the Trinamool Congress leadership have been publicly criticizing I-PAC in various forums and to the media.
The Chief Minister also alleged that an online agency linked to the BJP has become active in West Bengal, aiming to manipulate the voter list so that voters from other states can participate in the 2026 Assembly elections.
“From my understanding, the two agencies involved are the Association of Brilliant Minds and Company India 360. These entities have contacted data entry operators, working alongside certain errant block-level returning officers to associate voters from other states with the EPIC number of voters in West Bengal,” she stated.
She noted specific instances of voters from states such as Haryana, Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, and Rajasthan, mentioning, “The majority are from Haryana and Gujarat.”
Banerjee also pointed out that similar manipulations had occurred prior to elections in states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana, which aided the BJP in winning there. “Other parties failed to recognize the strategy. However, we in Bengal have identified this tactic in advance, and we will not allow it to succeed here,” she asserted. She subsequently announced the establishment of district-level core committees within her party, tasked with identifying such alleged manipulations in their respective locales.
“These district-level core committees will compile reports from their areas to a centralized committee, led by the party’s state president in West Bengal, Subrata Bakshi. The identification of fraudulent voters must be completed within the next 10 days. If this committee fails, I will personally identify the fraudulent voters,” the Chief Minister declared.
