Mamata Banerjee Calls Trinamool Workers to Stay Vigilant in Bhabanipur Amid Electoral Concerns
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) The leader of the Trinamool Congress and West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, urged her party members to maintain vigilance in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency as she raised alarms about the electoral process. She emphasized the importance of staying alert even after the polls close.
During a gathering with party officials and supporters in Chetla, located in south Kolkata, CM Banerjee highlighted the significance of Bhabanipur, where she is a candidate, framing it as a crucial electoral contest.
A leader from the Trinamool Congress present at the meeting indicated that Banerjee warned members about potential irregularities, urging them to be attentive during both the voting and counting stages.
The Chief Minister noted that numerous officials had been dismissed following the announcement of the election schedule, suggesting this has curtailed the role of the state administration during the electoral period.
She stressed the necessity for party members to be present and vigilant post-voting hours, emphasizing the need to keep an eye on strong rooms housing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). She voiced concerns regarding possible interruptions, such as power failures, and advised members not to leave right after the voting concludes.
CM Banerjee also discussed the party's broader political strategy, stating that following the West Bengal Assembly elections, the focus would shift to national issues. Additionally, she mentioned that the party would provide legal assistance to voters encountering challenges, such as their names being removed from electoral lists.
At this meeting, Trinamool Congress national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee encouraged party workers to strive for a larger victory margin in Bhabanipur and to avoid any sense of complacency.
Reflecting on previous electoral outcomes in the area, he urged the party to enhance its booth-level performance and increase the vote margin. He called for intensified outreach efforts to secure greater voter support across all regions.
In the forthcoming elections, the BJP has nominated Suvendu Adhikari to contest against Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur. The two politicians previously faced off in Nandigram during the 2021 Assembly elections, where Adhikari emerged victorious by a slim margin. Banerjee subsequently contested the Bhabanipur by-election later in that year and won decisively.
Senior leaders of the party, including Firhad Hakim and Subrata Bakshi, attended the meeting on Sunday.
