Shimla, Dec 21 (NationPress) The construction of the highly anticipated Bhubu Jot tunnel in Himachal Pradesh has received official approval, as stated by the state government on Saturday.
The Ministry of Defence has formally recommended to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) that the Bhubu Jot tunnel and the Ghatasani-Shilha-Bhubu Jot-Kullu National Highway be classified as a project of strategic significance.
In its correspondence, the Ministry of Defence emphasized the crucial role this highway and tunnel will serve as an alternate route to Leh and Ladakh, significantly augmenting the operational readiness of the armed forces in forward areas.
In addition to its strategic importance, the tunnel is anticipated to deliver considerable socio-economic benefits to the area, with budgetary allocations for the project being made accordingly.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu reiterated the state government’s firm commitment to the Bhubu Jot tunnel project.
“I personally approached Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 25 to advocate for the prioritization of this project, given its strategic relevance. The matter was also discussed with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The construction of this tunnel is poised to be a landmark achievement for the development of the state,” the official statement quoting Sukhu stated.
The proposed Bhubu Jot tunnel is expected to decrease the distance between Kangra and Kullu by more than 50 km, providing significant advantages to the local populace and enhancing tourism in the area, thereby reinforcing the economy.
