New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) The government is prioritizing preventive healthcare over merely curative healthcare in the nation, stated Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday.
Moreover, he emphasized that palliative and rehabilitative care are also being extensively provided, reiterating the central government’s dedication to delivering world-class healthcare to all citizens.
During the fifth convocation of AIIMS Rishikesh, Nadda mentioned that ensuring affordable and quality healthcare for every impoverished individual in the country is a primary focus of the central government.
“The government is dedicated to providing healthcare that encompasses not only curative but also preventive, palliative, and rehabilitative services,” noted the Union Minister.
Nadda also recognized the significant accomplishments of AIIMS institutes nationwide in the fields of medical education and services.
“Before this century commenced, India had just one AIIMS. Now, there are 22 AIIMS functioning across the nation.”
Discussing the Union Government’s achievements in healthcare, Nadda mentioned that currently, “1.75 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs operate throughout the country,” which provide a variety of services related to healthcare and wellness.
Furthermore, he noted improvements in medical education, stating, “There has been a 101% increase in medical colleges, totaling 780 nationwide. The number of MBBS seats has risen by 130%, while PG seats have seen a 138% increase over the last decade.”
“In addition, to support paramedics, 157 nursing colleges are being established in conjunction with medical colleges,” he added.
The Union Health Minister commended AIIMS Rishikesh for effectively using helicopter and drone services to rescue 309 critical patients and for being a leading institute in utilizing digital services like telemedicine (eSanjeevani) to assist remote and underserved regions.
During the event, Shri Nadda inaugurated several healthcare facilities aimed at enhancing the institute's medical services, including Integrated Medicine in the Ayush Department, a PET scan machine in the Nuclear Medicine Department, a PACS facility in the Radiology Department, and a Centre for Advanced Paediatrics in Paediatric Care.
