Will ‘Phoolwalon Ki Sair’ Be Celebrated More Grandly This Year?

New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance cultural activities within the Capital, the Delhi government has announced plans to celebrate the festival ‘Phoolwalon Ki Sair’ in a more elaborate and spectacular fashion this year, stated Art, Culture and Languages Minister Kapil Mishra on Monday.

Emphasizing the historical and cultural importance of the event, Mishra revealed that the festival will take place in a grand manner from November 2 to November 8.

“The goal of the Delhi government is to secure international recognition for this tradition and to bolster Delhi’s status as the ‘Cultural Capital’, focusing on promotion, publicity, and the active involvement of the local community,” Mishra explained.

This year’s festivities will showcase colorful processions, cultural performances, qawwali, folk music, programs featuring historical insights, and exhibits of traditional fans, as noted by Mishra.

Artists and social advocates from various regions of Delhi will take part in these celebrations, he added.

“‘Phoolwalon Ki Sair’ represents Delhi’s Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (composite culture). For centuries, both Hindu and Muslim communities have united to offer floral tributes and fans as tokens of reverence. This festival has consistently symbolized brotherhood, cultural unity, and collective celebration,” he remarked following a meeting with officials.

The meeting, held at the Delhi Secretariat, included senior officials and representatives from the Department of Art, Culture and Languages, Revenue Department, Delhi Waqf Board, and Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan Society.

During the meeting, Mishra emphasized that ‘Phoolwalon Ki Sair’ is an integral part of Delhi’s identity, and the Delhi Government is committed to revitalizing this long-standing tradition.

He instructed all departments to ensure their active involvement in the week-long festivities and to present comprehensive plans to enhance the program's grandeur and historical significance.

Earlier this month, the government hosted the city’s inaugural ‘Badariya: A Monsoon Farewell Festival’.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the initiative, stating, “Badariya transcends being merely a festival; it celebrates Delhi’s diversity and the richness of Indian culture. It serves as a bridge connecting our traditions to the younger generation.”

She remarked on how artists beautifully expressed the essence and emotions of the monsoon through music, dance, and art. “Such festivals not only culturally enrich Delhi but also promote a message of unity and brotherhood within society,” concluded the Chief Minister.
