New Delhi/Gandhinagar, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially named Sandip Sagale as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for Gujarat.
Sagale will assume his duties from the outgoing CEO, Hareet Shukla, after the formal transition.
A member of the Indian Administrative Service, class of 2007, in the Gujarat cadre, Sagale is currently the Director General of the Sports Authority of Gujarat, a position he took on after a significant reshuffle in the state government at the start of 2025.

His extensive administrative experience covers various sectors and assignments across different headquarters.
Records show that Sagale has previously served as the Municipal Commissioner for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and as Collector in critical districts such as Ahmedabad.
Officials have remarked that his background in both urban and district administration has equipped him with valuable insights into various governance issues.
Sagale holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Nagpur University. Born on November 16, 1972, he joined the IAS on August 18, 2007.
The Chief Electoral Officer's office acts as a crucial link between the ECI and the state government regarding electoral matters.
In Gujarat, the CEO is tasked with overseeing electoral roll revisions, coordinating election preparations with district officials, ensuring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct during elections, and providing periodic updates to the Election Commission.
Hareet Shukla will maintain his position until Sagale officially takes charge and completes the necessary transition with senior officials from the state Election Department.
During his time in office, Shukla managed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Gujarat, a vital initiative aimed at improving voter registration accuracy.
The entire voter revision process commenced on October 27 of the previous year and concluded on February 10.
