Gujarat Enhances 'Gaumata Poshan Yojana' Eligibility with New Registration Deadline
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, March 14 (NationPress) The government of Gujarat has widened the eligibility criteria for its cattle welfare assistance initiative by prolonging the registration cutoff for gaushalas (cow shelters) and panjarapoles (animal shelters). This decision is anticipated to include over 100 new institutions in the scheme starting from the upcoming financial year.
The eligibility for the 'Mukhyamantri Gaumata Poshan Yojana' has now been extended to all gaushalas and panjarapoles registered under the Public Trust Act until June 30, 2025.
This updated eligibility will be applicable from April 1, 2026.
During the announcement on Saturday, Animal Husbandry and Cow Breeding Minister Jitu Vaghani stated that the amendment was made in response to requests from various organizations to allow institutions registered after the previous cutoff to access the assistance provided by the scheme.
“Significant changes have been implemented in the eligibility criteria for receiving assistance under the Mukhyamantri Gaumata Poshan Yojana to ensure that more panjarapoles and gaushalas across the state can benefit from the scheme,” Vaghani remarked.
Under this program, both gaushalas and panjarapoles receive a financial aid of Rs 30 per animal per day to help in the maintenance of the cattle.
This initiative was introduced in the financial year 2022–23 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ambaji in Gujarat.
According to the minister, from 2022–23 until September 2025, the state has allocated a total of Rs 1,364 crore to support over 4.50 lakh animals cared for by more than 1,600 institutions throughout Gujarat.
Initially, only institutions registered under the Public Trust Act prior to March 31, 2022 were eligible for this assistance.
Organizations that registered after this date, including many that commenced operations in subsequent financial years, were unable to receive support, prompting appeals to the state government.
The revised cutoff date will now allow approximately 100 additional gaushalas and panjarapoles to qualify for the scheme.
The government anticipates that this extension will result in around Rs 10 crore in additional financial aid for the cattle cared for by these organizations.
Vaghani emphasized that this decision underscores the government’s commitment to support organizations dedicated to the welfare of cattle.
“The state government’s goal of providing financial backing to the charitable activities of animal care conducted by gaushalas and panjarapoles has been genuinely achieved through this decision,” he concluded.
